If you need to erase all personal data (eg, messages, address book entries, notes) from your BlackBerry device, you should first make a backup of your data. For instructions, see the Knowledge Base document How to back up and restore Blackberry data?
Before holding your device, do the following to prevent the synchronization after you remove it, which will reload all your personal data:
- Open BlackBerry Desktop Manager, double-click Intellisync, and then click Auto start ... .
- Make sure the only option checked is Update handheld date and time.
- Click OK, then click Close.
To delete personal data from your BlackBerry, follow the instructions below:
- Cradle your device.
- If the BlackBerry you are clearing is not the one you are currently using, you will see a Redirector Settings pop-up that says your email account is set up to use a different device and asking if you want to change it to work with this device. Click No.
- Double-click the Application Loader, then click Next.
- If prompted, enter your password.
- On the Handheld Application Selection screen, click Next.
- You will see the message "No action required." Click Next. If you have 850 or 950 series device, click Next on the Handheld Storage Allocation screen.
- On the Handheld Data Preservation screen, click to check the Delete all data applications. Click Next.
- Data Backup Application on the screen, select Do not automatically back up and restore the handheld application data during the loading process. Click Next.
- Click Finish. Make sure you do not remove the handheld from the cradle until the clearing process is completed.
